Muir breaks the 1,000m European Indoor Record
Laura Muir set a new British, as well as European Record over the 1,000m at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix in Birmingham, providing the highlight of the IAAF World Indoor Tour final.
Muir hadn’t shied away from the pre-race talk of breaking the British Record of 2:32.96min and the European Record of 2:32.16. At the end she set a new ER of 2:31.93min; passing the 800m in a new Indoor PB of 2:00.56min.
Her performance ranks her second on the world indoor all-time list and within one second of Mutola’s World Record.
Muir said, “I am delighted. To beat Kelly Holmes’ record is amazing and to be so close to the world record is also very encouraging for me.”
