Chris Derrick wins the Bupa Great Edinburgh 8k
Chris Derrick, the former Stanford distance star who lives and trains in Portland, ran away with the BUPA Great Edinburgh cross country race Saturday in Edinburgh, Scotland.
Derrick finished the eight-kilometer course in 24 minutes, 11 seconds, and pulled Team USA to a second-place finish in the men’s team standings.
Europe won with 53 points. Team USA had 55.
Derrick, a member of the elite, Nike-based training group coached by Jerry Schumacher, was 10 seconds faster than Britain’s Andy Vernon, second in 24:21.
