Annie Bersagel wins US Marathon Championships

Annie Bersagel won the 2013 US Marathon Championships at the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon in spectacular fashion.  She stopped the clock at 2:30:53, almost three minutes ahead of Laura Portis at 2:33:46, over 10 minutes faster than her previous personal best, and an almost even split from her 1:14 half marathon checkpoint.

Completing her first full marathon since the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon in 2009, Bersagel took advantage of an excellent training season to shake off the disappointment of a mid-race injury at the 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials to break the tape in style today.

With a tremendous move at mile 21 to take the lead from Wendy Thomas, Bersagel extended through the final miles to take her second national championship (2006 half marathon) as a pro.
