Mitchell Watt picks up Olympic Silver

Australia’s Mitchell Watt won a fantastic silver medal in the men’s long jump in the London 2012 Olympic games.

Watt followed up his silver at the World Championships in Daegu with a leap of 8.16 metres, finishing behind Great Britain’s Greg Rutherford.

It was an electric night in the Olympic Stadium with GB success from Jessica Ennis in the heptathlon and Mo Farah in the men’s 10,000 metres.

“There is a reason why the Olympic Games is the pinnacle of our sport,” Watt said. “This is so much sweeter than the silver at the world championships.”

“My best jump was when Jessica Ennis was going past. So I just pretended I was British for about 30 seconds.”
