Weekend Update – Oslo, New York, …

New York Diamond League:

Christabel Nettey set a new Meet Record and captured her first Diamond League victory at the Adidas Grand Prix in New York on Saturday.

In the women’s long jump, the leader changed at least five times throughout the competition with Nettey, British record-holder Shara Proctor and USA’s Tianna Bartoletta all in the mix, but Nettey kept going farther with every attempt. She improved Janay DeLoach-Soukup’s meeting record of 6.79m twice, posting 6.87m in the fourth round and 6.92m into a -1.3m/s headwind in the fifth.

“The conditions were tricky today, we had to deal with strong headwinds.” said Nettey. “In the first two attempts, I just wasn’t hitting the board, and it was a little frustrating. I was just trying to keep my composure and stay focused. Luckily, after the second round, the wind calmed a little bit.”

In the men’s 5k, Arne Gabius managed to produce his best result ever at a Diamond League meeting; finishing in 6th place, just 3sec behind the winner. He is set to compete at the B.A.A 10k next weekend.

Oslo Diamond League:

Rutherford showed his class in the long jump to claim his second Diamond League victory of the week, just 4 days after winning at the Sainsbury’s Birmingham Grand Prix. An 8.25m jump in the third round saw off the competition and the European champion extended his lead at the top of the Diamond Race standings.

The 2012 Olympic Champion commented: “I jumped on Sunday so I wanted to monitor my body and rested after 8.25m. I was feeling that might be good enough to win but there were a lot of good jumpers who could attack my position so I stayed warm and was ready if something happened.”

“So far I must say I am very satisfied with the season.”

Portland Track Festival:

Garrett Heath finished second in the 1500m in a time of 3:34.13min. It’s the seventh-fastest time on the world level and Garrett’s 2nd fastest race ever.
