Weekend Update – Hengelo, 8th June

Diana Sujew confirmed her great shape and ran 4:05.72min. Not only a standard for the European Championships this summer, but also her 3rd fastest race ever.

Her sister Elina also showed a great performance and finished the race in 4:07.82min.

In his third meet of this summer season, Olympic long jump champion Greg Rutherford jumped 8.24m to miss winning by just 1cm. Five of his six jumps went over 8m, a new personal record. Later the day Greg competed in the 100m as well and ran 10.44sec.

But it was European junior champion Chijindu Ujah, who had a sensational breakthrough when the 20-year old sprinter finished second in 9.96sec behind Richard Thompson’s 9.95sec. It was a British under-23 record and puts him in third position on the UK  all-time list.
