Rutherford wins the Manchester City Games

Rutherford opened his outdoor season with an impressive victory, courtesy of a first round leap of 8.01m. It was also the only 8m jump of the competition.

“Considering the cold conditions, I’d say that was one of my best ever jumps. I wish I had jumped farther today because I know I’m in good shape.”

Rutherford will be competing next at the Diamond League meeting in Shanghai on the 17th of May.

While Chijindu Ujah finished 4th in the men’s 100m race, he teamed up with British female sprinter Dina Asher-Smith to win the mixed relay event. The pair prevailed in 20.30sec, ahead of compatriots Bianca Williams and Richard Kilty (20.78sec). “It was a good start from Dina, she set it up well for me” said Ujah.
