5 Gold medals at 2014 Commonwealth Games

The 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow are over and five athletes ended up winning a gold medal.

Steve Lewis-Pole Vault: Steve managed to win his first gold medal at Commonwealth Games after winning a silver in 2010 and a bronze in 2006. It was also his first gold medal ever at a major championship. After clearing 5.55m during the regular competition, Steve had to do a jump off against Luke Cutts, which he could win with another clearance of 5.55m.

Dani Samuels-Disucs Throw: Dani was the clear favorite going into the final and was able to deliver once again. It was her 3rd attempt when she threw 64.88m to win the gold medal with more than 3m.

Greg Rutherford-Long Jump: After a tough 2013, Greg has been in great shape the whole year and won his second gold medal at a major Championship. He jumped a distance of 8.12m with his first attempt and jumped even further on his third attempt, 8.20m.

Kim Mickle-Javelin Throw: Kim was the favorite going into the final, but had strong competitors alongside and also had to deal with a foot injury. Her second attempt went 65.96m, more than enough to win the competition. In 2010 Kim won a silver medal, now it has been gold.

Alana Boyd-Pole Vault: Alana had to deal with terrible conditions; not only strong crosswinds, but also heavy rain showers delayed the competition. Due to this Alana had to take all of her three attempts to clear her opening height, but she then found her rhythm and ended up jumping 4.50m.
